I’m not at that age yet, but at a certain age, what people usually (or at least should) concern themselves with are…
- Can I live INDEPENDENTLY?
- Can I do what I WANT to do?
- Can I live my BEST life?
I know that’s what my dad was thinking when out of his own volition, he cut this newspaper article out and pasted it on his wardrobe.
“Four tests to see if you are ageing well”
Mind you, he hasn’t had the habit of reading ST Life (great information, we all should).
And before I asked, I had assumed it was my sister’s not-so-subtle hint.
So naturally when a Practice Member asked, “Do you think my mother is doing better?”
I referenced this anecdote and my response was not so much about pain.
But the improvement in Function. Activities of Daily Living. Quality of Life.
- Getting on and off the adjusting table without assistance.
- The clarity of thought in responding and following directions.
- The ability and confidence to move and self-manage said condition.
- All done in good spirits and with vitality.
We temper our expectations as practitioners.
But cases like these, like I tell my dad and observe him post-retirement…
It’s a misconception that ageing equates to weakness.
Or a fall is a slippery slope to frailty.
It’s possible to age healthier.
It’s possible to bounce back stronger.
The key lies in the choices we make and the actions we take.
And a bit of the people we meet.**
* In fact, these 3 questions are what we should ask ourselves at any and every age.
** There are many other factors at play. For another day.

Your chiropractor is in a great position to offer advice on achieving and maintaining good posture (such as changing lifestyle habits, making ergonomics assessments, recommending stretches), in addition to checking and adjusting your spine.
Considering chiropractic care but not sure if it is for you?
Here are links to 2-5 minute animations that help explain the benefits of chiropractic care, for the young to old.
Did you know? The term “vertebral subluxation” is commonly used in chiropractic and occurs when a spinal misalignment affects the communication between the brain and body. “Luxation” means dislocation, and “subluxation” with the prefix “sub” means “less than” a dislocation.
